Best of the Best: 2012 Edition
Happy New Year! Happy 2013! It’s so exciting to be starting a new year. As we look forward with hopeful expectation for the fun things the new year will bring, let us take a moment to look back. Moving on with a new year is fun, but you don’t want to forget the fun that you’ve had in the past year! Even though we’ll find new restaurants, movies and experiences that we’ll enjoy this year, we can’t forget the cool discoveries we made this past year! We already shared who we thought sported the best fashion of 2012. So, here’s a list of the best of the best of all the things we discovered in 2012! (If you click on the favorite item you can check out a more in-depth account of what we liked about it by checking out the original post)
We saw several Christian movies in 2012 and this was by far the best. Sherwood Pictures has definitely stepped up their game with the quality of their 4th feature film.
Woody Allen created a movie that was both charming and thought provoking, which is very difficult to do. Not too mention is contained wonderful performances by some of the best actors of today.
We had passed Big Bowl on many occasions and had always intended to eat at Big Bowl. We loved the beautiful interiors and the vegetable spring rolls were so yummy!
We seemed to watch a lot of sports movies this year. The movie we enjoyed most was The Mighty Macs, which is based on the true story of coach Cathy Rush and the 1972 Immaculata College Women’s Basketball Team. It was well acted and inspirational. Let’s face it women in sports never get enough attention for their actual accomplishments, so it was refreshing to see a movie that didn’t sexualize or sensationalize women athletes.
Our readers sent us to the circus! We loved the clowns and some of the other performers. We do wish that they would discontinue the use of animals in performance because the animal acts were sad and the human performers, especially the clowns, were great!
This food festival was awesome! We had wonderful crepes (Kari’s first) from Crepe Amour and were introduced the pasties from Pure Pasty Co.
We tried a lot of reality shows, in particular a lot of reality food shows, and Food Network Star and The Great Food Truck Race were the best! Food Network star introduced us to Justin Warner and we’re so excited about his new show! The Great Food Truck Race introduced us to the awesome ladies at Nonna’s Kitchenette.
South Pacific is a wonderful show and recent tour delivered all the gloss and heart of the Lincoln Center revival.
Morristown, Tennessee has hit the jackpot with Jersey Girl Diner. It’s cute, the food is amazing and the service is wonderful. The only problem that you’ll have is selecting what from their wonderful selections to order!
They are closed in the winter. We miss Kline’s Freeze ice cream and we’ll be there for opening day in the spring!
We had to find a way to deal with Pinkberry’s rotating out of our favorite flavors. Sweet Frog is cute and yummy!
Who knew this would be such a great show! Kari’s father reminded us about this show right before it premiered and suggested we post about it! Great suggestion! We just hope they’ll be another season soon!
We love united Bates of America and thought it was the best new show of the whole year. Sadly, TLC has decided that there will not be any more episodes. We emailed and showed our support for this show, and if you miss it you should too! It’s so sad that’s cancelled. We love the Duggars, but the Bates family was even more charming. It’s great to see Christian families on television and their show is already greatly missed by us.
We loved this show! We are still watching the DVD we purchased of the performance and can’t wait to attend the show in 2013!
We needed some takeout options and we found the best takeout chicken ever! Bon Chon Chicken is spicy, crunchy and juicy! Their kimchi slaw is also out of this world good! Just be prepared that when we say spicy, we mean SPICY!
Mon Ami Gabi is amazing. Some of our favorite restaurant favorites are their Steak au Poivre (for dinner), Quiche Lorraine and Vanilla French Toast (for brunch), Profiteroles (anytime!!!) and their sorbets are excellent!
The Lorax has a great message, cute songs, and beautiful animation. It’s a wonderful movie for anyone of any age!
Donato’s pizza was another fabulous discovery from the Taste of Vienna festival. It’s the best thin-crust pizza ever and they don’t skimp on the pepperoni
We enjoyed Mellow Mushroom in two of its locations ( Bristol, Virginia and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee) this year and were always delighted with the results! Big portions, big flavors and fun décor keep Mellow Mushroom high on our list of favorite restaurants. Seriously, their pretzels are amazing!
We tried so many cupcake shops looking for good cupcakes in Northern Virginia and we’re still looking for the best local cupcakes. We discovered the best cupcakes of the year in Abingdon, Virginia at Babycakes Cupcakery. Inventive flavors, great prices and yummy cupcakes made this the best cupcakery of 2012!
It was beautiful! Who wouldn’t love a version of the Nutcracker with Washingtonian influences!
We’re both still singing and doing the choreography. Signature always has great shows, but Dreamgirls was just AMAZING. Nova Y. Payton is a local treasure!
Olney Theatre Center’s production of Cinderella was lovely and entertaining. The costumes were amazing!
Best Female Style- Taylor Swift
She was on my (Kari’s) best dressed list multiple times (Grammy Awards, Billboard Awards, ACM awards, CMA awards) I love her style and I look forward to seeing what looks she’ll be rocking in the new year.
Best Male Style- Mike Fisher
RJ loved Mike Fisher’s style on several occasions( like the Billboard Music Awards).
Happy 2013! We look forward to sharing our new discoveries with you in 2013!
