Playlists Easter 2013
Today is Good Friday and while it can be viewed as a sad day it shouldn’t be. Because even though today we celebrate the anniversary of Jesus’ death on the cross we also know that He’s alive. He’s in Heaven advocating for us to our gracious Heavenly Father. Some day He’s coming back for us and will take all His followers home for eternity! That sounds like something to celebrate! I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be sobered by the thoughts of that it was for our sins He was put to death. But, if we believe in His death and resurrection and have made Him the Lord of our life then we are forgiven (Romans 10:9-13) so let’s celebrate! What is a crucial ingredient of any celebration? Music! Today, I (Kari) will lead you through some of our Easter favorites. You can also check out our Easter playlist from last year, because I like to mix it up and change songs out and new ones, too! Also if you don’t really know the story of Easter and would like to know more about Jesus and the cross then please check out this awesome article (Resurrection Hope) by one of our favorite pastors Dr. Charles Stanley.
Now let’s get to the music! As the official house deejay I’ve divided the playlist into several different categories. I really enjoy a blend of worship music that reflects different styles. I love so many styles of music. This is only a small sampling of the worship music that me listen to. For Easter I wanted to create a playlist that really reflected worshiping Jesus, telling the story of cross and celebrating salvation in Him! Lots of songs do all 3 of those things, but these songs really felt like they perfectly fit my playlist ideals! I hope you see some favorites on this list or maybe that you’ll discover some new songs that you enjoy!
Classic Hymns– These are songs that I grew up singing. Some of the versions are much more country music influenced and some versions are more sedate. But, basically these are the songs that were ingrained in me as a child and they still resonate with me today.
Songs that Followed Me Throughout My Life– No Matter how far I ran from God or how stupid and rebellious I ever was, which was pretty bad actually, God used these songs to pursue me. I’m so grateful for my grandfather for instilling a love of Southern Gospel in me (“Sweeter As the Days Go By”) and my mother for playing a children’s record that had “Jesus Name Above All Names.” Every time, that we visited Dollywood and I heard “He’s Alive” it touched me. When I hear these songs now I am so grateful for God’s persistence in seeking my heart and I celebrate the joy I feel for my salvation!
Contemporary Christian Classics
Songs that I always want to do the motions because we sing them during VBS– I love working at Vacation Bible School. These songs are awesome and once you see the fun motions you’ll want to do them, too!
New Favorites– These songs are wonderful treats that I’ve discovered in the past year.
Personal Testimony Songs– These songs are the songs that connect most to me as they relate to my personal testimony. These songs tell all about how glorious it is to be set free from your sin because of Christ. The peace and happiness that you feel from surrendering your life to God are amazing. It may sound crazy that you would give yourself to something completely and feel free, but when it’s Jesus that you give up your life for freedom is exactly what you get! These songs are so personal to me and someday I dream of performing them so that I can share my story with others!
Happy Easter! We wish everyone a special time of joy and peace! Easter is a precious gift. The candy, pretty dresses and family meals are fun. But, don’t forget the gift that will outlast all the candy, dresses and leftovers is the awesome gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ.
