I often find the Southern part of myself missing the food of the South. Because sometimes those foods, especially those desserts are very hard to find. Where are the sweets for those of us, regardless of what area you grew up in, who miss the yummy church supper desserts and or special treats that our grandmothers used to make? I’m elated to tell you about our discovery of Danielle’s Desserts. These cakes, pies and goodies take you back to those days of wonderful, homemade, heartfelt treats.

Her cakes took me back to all the church suppers and potlucks that I’ve attended- but they were even better than that! Danielle’s cakes taste much better than the memories in my mind.  Her desserts manage to take you back to another time, while improving on classic recipes. The cakes have the perfect crumb, delectable frosting and diverse flavors.  The Southern Caramel is a sweet cake, but mellowed with the taste of rich caramel and yellow cake. I ADORE this cake! Her Red Velvet cake is moist and adorned with a beautiful cap of perfectly balanced cream cheese frosting. Her Lemon buttercream cupcake has a perfectly pronounced lemon cake, giving you both sweetness and a little pucker! Her chocolate cupcakes are also a wonder in their tender texture and robust taste.

Her Lemon Chess pie is also a perfect combination of citrus and sweet adorned with a wonderfully flaky crust. Her Key Lime pie (my first piece ever) was also a citrus wonder that tasted of lime’s brightness and was well complimented by a rich graham cracker crust.

As the voice for the food allergy and dietary restrictive people in our audience I have to tell you that Danielle has some amazing treats. In addition to offering gluten-free cupcakes Her coconut macaroons are gluten free and delicious. The Death by Chocolate tart is so delicious that you will not believe that it’s gluten-free. It’s rich, deep, sweet and perfectly chocolate!

I seriously cannot wait to visit Danielle’s again. Her shop is adorable, her sweets are amazing and Danielle is one of the nicest people that I have ever met.

Now the only problem I have is trying to decide between getting a Southern Caramel cake or Lemon Chess pie for my birthday!

Danielle’s Desserts offers a down home country experience in the heart of an upscale mall. Danielle’s offers Southern comfort food desserts that will take you on a relaxing flavor excursion to a bygone era. All of the potluck supper desserts are here: Hummingbird cake, Red Velvet, Bundt cakes, and my favorite Southern Caramel cake.

I don’t have the memories of a childhood eating this kind of food like Kari does, but boy does Danielle’s make me wish I did.

We tried so many amazing treats that I can’t even list them all. The Southern Caramel cake was a lovely cake that had a frosting that was so sweet and rich that I didn’t want to run out of cake, ever. The bread pudding was the best bread pudding I’ve ever had in my life. It was a perfect custard consistency, had just the right amount of raisins and cinnamon, and had a delightfully light sauce as well. The Italian Cream cake featured a wonderful contrast between the smooth creamy frosting, and the nuts that studded the cake. Danielle also has quite a way with coconut. She has many great recipes including her Fluffy Coconut cake, her Coconut Macaroons, and she even puts them in a pie with pecans and chocolate chips!

I can’t talk enough about how much I enjoyed the food at Danielle’s.  The big question is just how big a slice of cake could I convince them to give me!

RJ liked: Everything, but especially the Bread Pudding, the Southern Caramel cake, and the Red Velvet cake.
