Part of the fun of Christmas is giving. We want to give, you our readers some very special presents because you’ve been so sweet to us this year. So, welcome to our seventh post in our 12 Sweets of Christmas Giveaway! Throughout the holiday season we’ll be visiting some amazing local businesses, reviewing their best treats and then giving you a chance to win an awesome prize! Merry Christmas and good luck!
We’re all probably trying to eat healthier in the new year and the little changes add up. Making a little change like trying to eat foods that contain more whole grains and more fresh ingredients can improve our diets. Great Harvest Bread Co.’s items exhibit both of those traits.
The freshly ground grains especially shine in Great Harvest’s breads. The Apple Scrapple bread contains a yummy mixture of apple (Granny Smith- my fave) and brown sugar. Their cookies are also tasty. The Double Chocolate Chip, which we sampled, was a mixture of chocolate and the crunchy, fresh taste of whole grain.
The store has a delicious aroma from the fresh baked bread and they also give away samples! Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh bread and samples?

Great Harvest Bread Co. in Herndon breads and cookies taste so good, you wouldn’t imagine they’re made with freshly milled wheat. In fact, at Great Harvest they freshly mill their own wheat on premises every morning for that day’s baking. That commitment to homegrown quality really shows through.
We tried the Apple Scrapple, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip breads, and the Double Chocolate Chip cookie. All were tasty. Everything had a really fresh flavor, and lacked the odd taste that commercially prepared wheat bread can get.
