Sometimes we all need a little comfort food. Whether it’s because you’re sick, tired or feeling blue, sometimes you just need something that’s simple and tasty. Pie Gourmet makes pies, both sweet and savory with simple, homemade techniques updated with owner Dora’s flair for spices. The varieties of pies that are offered are impressive and they taste delicious!
Dora’s Tanzanian heritage influences her deft ability to combine unique spices with home-style pies. Her Chicken Pot Pie contains the traditional tender meat, flaky crust, veggies and gravy. Yet it also contains a rich, slightly spicy bite that makes you wish that you had a larger piece. Her quiches are also delicious, especially the Potato & Ham with it’s smoky ham flavor and perfectly cooked chunks of potato.
Pie gourmet also serves up some delicious sweet pies as well. The Apple-Peach is a perfectly balanced pie that is imbued with mellow apple flavor as well as the sweet taste of peaches. The added almonds provide a wonderful crunchy texture that enhances the experience of eating the pie.
The next time I’m not able to cook because I’m unwell instead of sending RJ to pick up something fast food, I’m sending him to Pie Gourmet. It’s so easy to pick up either slices or a whole pie and enjoy something that’s handmade with real, fresh ingredients and love. Who would rather have chicken potpie or quiche instead of a burger? ME!

Pie Gourmet seems like a very straightforward shop, but first impressions can be deceiving. They make traditional American sweet and savory pies, but add a little extra flavor to everything that they make.
The Potato & Ham Quiche is a good example. I’d never had potato in a quiche before, and it was very good. Their Chicken Pot Pie had a little more kick than any other I’ve had, and that was very enjoyable.
The Apple-Peach was another combination that I wouldn’t have thought of, and the pairing is even better than the sum of its parts. This is a fruity explosion of flavor.
When we were there, the star was the Mincemeat. I’ve never liked Mincemeat pie before, but this was something in a different class. They do something with this pie that I won’t divulge here, but that will make this the best mincemeat pie you’ll ever taste.
Okay, so I’m done writing now, does that mean I can have more pie?
