It’s no surprise that we love food, after all, it’s one of our favorite topics that we blog about. We eat a variety of cuisines and love to try different foods. But, sometimes we do get the craving for things that are familiar and take us back to our childhood. Especially if they are in a yummy junk food form! We don’t eat nearly as much as junk as we did in college and when we were first married. But, we do still eat a little bit, every now and then. In honor of National Junk food Day here are a few of our favorite junk foods.
RJ first gave me a box in college and I thought that I’d never tasted better candy before. We always have them on Christmas morning now. They truly began my love of hazelnuts.
Starburst Candy Corn
I discovered this last fall. These are the best candy corn in the world because they combine the yummy fruity flavors of Starburst with the familiar texture of candy corn.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
I love Krispy Kreme so much. I’ve loved these doughnuts since I was a little girl. My favorite used to be just glazed, but now I really like a variety of them. Have you ever had the maple frosted ones? In fact, this was my birthday cake last year: a pyramid of Krispy Kremes!
I know everyone tries to eat healthy, and Kari and I have been doing a better and better job at that. We’ve both lost quite a bit of weight in the past year. But everybody still loves junk food. Here are my favorites:
I didn’t even know I liked Peeps as much as I do until Kari wanted to use them as table decorations for Easter. I now can’t get enough of them, and my least favorite thing about summer is that they aren’t available!
This is another joy of a junk food that Kari introduced me to. I’d never had this great combination of salty and sweet before we’d been to Dollywood. I haven’t had any in a long time, and I miss it so much.
They are my favorite commercial candy ever made. The caramel and chocolate together is so delicious.
Every year we have a fantastic all game night and junk food buffet on New Year’s Eve. We look forward to it every year. We eat holiday M&M’s (is there a better candy than M&M’s- no!) and M&M’s have also been very dear to me in Baby G’s pregnancy too. We also have homemade buffalo chicken pizza, chips and salsa and nuts. Plus I always make some homemade candy too- usually pinwheel candy and haystacks. New Year’s Eve is our last big party of the holiday season and I’m already looking forward to it this year. Baby G will be living here with us and we get to play games and eat candy!
We usually make a pretty great spread for New Year’s Eve. I know there’s lots of stuff here, but most of it is homemade, so that’s not nearly as bad. I love the Chex Mix that Kari makes and the candies, but there’s something about her buffalo chicken pizza that just screams New Year’s for me.
What’s your favorite junk food?
