I haven’t been a big fan of lot of award show red carpets this season and I was so excited for the 2016 Oscars red carpet. I was hoping for glamour, creativity and a lot of wow factor. However, the 2016 Oscars red carpet was more about boring, blah and a lot of 90s style. There were way too many dresses that either felt like bridesmaid dresses or like that purple prom dress you dreamed of in 1997. Here are my picks for best-dressed on the 2016 Oscars red carpet:
Isla Fisher in Marchesa
I love the neckline, the whispery soft print and the metallic belt. Her hair is fabulous and I love seeing a metallic nail color on the red carpet.
Sarah Silverman in Zac Posen
I think that almost every red carpet has some variation of black dress that looks fantastic and this sculptured Zac Posen dress fits the bill for the 2016 Oscars red carpet.
Andra Day in SAFiYAA
This lemon yellow gown is a perfect balance between structure and softness. I’m always a big fan of marcelled waves too. She looks lovely!
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell
This jumpsuit has lots of drama and while it has a little too much cleavage on display, it’s still a fantastic outfit. The fullness of the cape, contrasted with the pants is so interesting. Her fabulously retro hair is a lovely accompaniment to the ensemble.
Emily Blunt in Prada
This mommy-to-be earns my pick for absolute best-dressed woman on the 2016 Oscars red carpet. Baby pink and jazzed up with just the right amount of sparkle, I can’t help smiling at this dress. Emily looks radiant and that gown is gorgeous whether used for a maternity gown or not!
Even though some of the red carpets from the 2016 award season were terribly lackluster, I still love a good red carpet. I’m already looking forward to the Met Gala and Cannes!
The 2016 Oscars were a much more adventurous menswear outing that I expected. Normally what you see is the same black tux and black bowtie, but this year there was a lot of variety on display, and I really liked it. Here my picks for best-dressed men on the 2016 Oscars red carpet:
Sylvester Stallone in Yves Saint Laurent
The Creed nominee certainly has my nomination for best dressed. I love the understated blue of the jacket and pants, and the pairing of the black shirt and bowtie. The fit is also flawless.
I love vests and unique textures, and this outfit gives us both. The blue of this suit is beautiful, but the combination of that shade and the texture is something I’ve never seen before. Add in the vest, and it’s a great look.
Kevin Hart in Dolce & Gabanna
Sparkly menswear can be very good or very bad. Kevin Hart uses it tastefully here, and the effect is awesome.
Jared Leto in Gucci
There isn’t a bad thing I can say about this crazy-cool look from Jared Leto. It’s tailored beautifully, and the red piping against the black is striking. The flower for a bowtie is another touch that I have never seen before. The laces are interesting as well.
