The Met Gala is a fashion event that I look forward to all year. I love seeing the spectacular fashions on display. Last year’s Met Gala ensembles were really impressive. While I wasn’t crazy about the Manus x Machina theme I still waited expectantly for the 2016 Met Gala red carpet. There were definitely many unnamed missteps, but I also found many delightful ensembles. Here are my picks for best-dressed women on the 2016 Met Gala Red Carpet:
Jessica Chastain in Prada
This shade of blue is gorgeous and the jet beading sets it off perfectly! I also love that she accessorized it with a watch instead of a bracelet.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse
When I first saw this outfit, I really liked it, but I wondered, “is she doing a riff on Hamilton?” And she was! SJP is such a fan of the smash musical that wore this custom ensemble inspired by the show.
Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabanna
This darling gown is so bedecked and bedazzled with retro accoutrements that there’s no way a vintage girl like me couldn’t love it! And do you see the hair combs?!
Zoe Saldana in Dolce & Gabanna
The feathers on this train are amazing! The craftsmanship it took to make this skirt really staggers me.
Elizabeth Cordry in Dolce & Gabanna
This peach dress feels like a dreamy, retro ball gown. The flowers on her dress are beautiful. It definitely gives me a strong I Love Lucy feel! (Remember when Lucy and Ethel wore the same dress!!!)
Blake Lively in Burberry
This romantic, draped and caped gown looks like a dream! The floral detail is beautiful.
Claire Danes in Zac Posen
Move over Cinderella, Claire Danes is here! This sculptured gown is lovely on the red carpet, and my pick for best gown of the night, but it also lights up! This fantastic and fiber optic fabric really expressed the futuristic theme of the Met Gala.
Lots of floral, lots of retro and lots of Dolce & Gabanna comprised my favorites. Who do you think was best dressed at the 2016 Met Gala?
