Adam Rippon Interview

Adam Rippon Interview by The He Said She Said Experience

Adam Rippon is the 2016 U. S. national figure skating champion. As one of American most creative skaters, it’s a treat to watch Adam skate. (Keep your eyes peeled for his famous Rippon Lutz!) You can catch him along with a host of other figure skating champions on the 2017 Stars on Ice tour. We got to ask Adam a few questions about the tour and the upcoming Olympics. Here’s what he had to say!

Kari &RJ: First of all, we are so glad that you’re back on the ice after being injured how do you feel?

Adam Rippon: At first it was a little weird and I felt like I had never been on the ice in my life. But within a few days I have started to feel like my old self.

K&R: What are you most looking forward to about being a part of the Stars on Ice tour this year?

Adam Rippon: I’m most looking forward to sharing the tour experience with my fellow cast mates. We have such a good group of skaters and an awesome show prepared.

K&R: Did you ever see Stars on Ice in person or on television when you were a kid?

Adam Rippon: Yes! When I was a young kid I would always go to Stars On Ice when it would come near me. It was something I always looked forward to.

K&R: So many amazing skaters have performed with Stars on Ice through the years, who has been your favorite?

Adam Rippon: I don’t know if I can pick a favorite. But, when I think about a performance I remember the most, for me it’s watching Kristi Yamaguchi.

K&R: What are you looking forward to the most about the summer?

Adam Rippon: I’m most looking forward to being on the ice again. Honestly, I’ve spent so much time off the ice that it feels amazing to be skating again.

K&R: How about next season, what are you excited about?

Adam Rippon: I’m really looking forward to excitement of the Olympics.

K&R: You have such an obvious passion for figure skating, what made you want to start skating?

Adam Rippon: Being originally from the east coast we have brutal winters. My family and I love to go sledding, play in the snow, and would always go skating. One winter I just couldn’t get enough!

K&R: Your Rippon Lutz is truly stunning to see. What made you start developing your signature move?

Adam Rippon: I wanted to do something different and stand out. Brian Boitano had done the Lutz with one arm above his head and I thought I would work on it with two.

K&R: If you could develop one-non skating skill, whether a foreign language or cooking or playing an instrument what would it be?

Adam Rippon: I would love to know a few foreign languages. My coaches speak Russian and we travel to so many different countries for events I would love to be able to communicate better.

K&R:You travel a lot for skating, what some of your travel essentials?

Adam Rippon: Never forget your cell phone charger, or travel adaptor. For me, also never forget your skates.

K&R: What is your favorite thing to do when you travel? Shop, try new food, take long walks or something else?

Adam Rippon: I love to try new foods mixed with a nice amount of shopping.

K&R: Now for some random quick questions. Which do you prefer?

Action Movie or Musical? Musical

Read the Book or Watch the Movie? Book

Red or Green? Red

Lemon or Lime? Lime

The Price is Right or Jeopardy? TPIR

K&R: Okay, here are a few questions we ask everyone that we interview

You’ve got five minutes to get pumped for an event, what song are you listening to?

Adam Rippon: Anything that’s EDM.

If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

Adam Rippon: Superman. I would love be to be able to fly.

(Editor’s note: If you’ve ever seen Adam Rippon skate, you know he CAN fly! And if you’ve never seen him skate go look him on YouTube now!)

We have a two-year-old son and we’re expecting another boy in August, what is the best piece of advice would you give them either for skating or for life?

Adam Rippon: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Take chances and if you fall down, get up and try again. And most importantly be kind.

Thank you, Adam! We can’t wait to see the show. Have a great tour!
