The 2017 Met Gala was definitely full of shocking fashion, but of course we’ve come to expect nothing less from the event. This fun and fabulous event is an annual fund-raising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and coincides with the opening of a fabulous new exhibit. The 2017 Met Gala was sure to be fashion-forward, dramatically so, after it was announced that Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons would be the focus of the exhibit. The invites called for avant-garde black tie and while the evening did yield much ridiculous fashion, there were some stunning ensembles as well. Check out my picks for best dressed at the 2017 Met Gala.
Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton
This dress very simple, but eye-catching when paired with pointy boots and amazing chandelier earrings. I would love to have this dress in my closet because it’s so flattering and I love anything in black and white.
Claire Foy in Erdem
An elegant gown comprised of two bold brocades? Yes, please! I love the print on the back because it reminds me of my grandparent’s house.
Claire Danes in Monse
I love dresses for evening wear, but when an outfit is so structural, yet manages to retain some romance, it’s impossible to care that it’s pants and not a dress. The top with its beautiful detailing from the one shoulder, to the cuffs, to that train is so unique. This outfit is made all the better by a perfect smoky eye, earrings and fierce shoes!
Miranda Kerr in Oscar de la Renta
The shape of this dress is perfection and the print is charming.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Commes des Garcons
This shade of blue is beautiful and I love the shape of this dress. How perfect to wear a dress from the designer behind the evening’s theme while also feeling perfectly wearable? Some Commes des Garcons outfits don’t feel like they have a place off of the runway, but this dress really does.
Emmy Rossum in custom Carolina Herrera
Here’s another elegant pants ensemble! I love the beautiful softness of the top paired with the perfect pair of slim black trousers. You can’t beat a smooth chignon, dangly diamond earrings and a bold lip for topping any evening look.
Mandy Moore in Michael Kors Collection
I love the asymmetry and textural details of this gown. The pink eye makeup is also futuristic and pretty. And those mismatched earrings really help this ensemble feel unique.
Daisy Ridley in Oscar de la Renta
The modern shape and graphic print make this dress fun and fresh. Especially when accented by dewy skin and a simple hairstyle.
Sofia Coppola in Marc Jacobs
This gown is just simple, elegant perfection. Gold can sometimes come across as too brash, but this look is completely refined.
Bee Schaffer in Alesxander McQueen
Of course, Bee (daughter of Anna Wintour) has an amazing dress. She’s grown up around fashion and undoubtedly has had amazing access to things some of us could only dream about. But, she’s got great taste in her own right and access to high fashion doesn’t always guarantee good taste (Katy Perry). This brocade is perfectly at home molded into this sculptural gown. It’s flawless. Plus, her jewelry is the best on the red carpet!
Felicity Jones in Erdem
The lilac, the ruffles, and the small details on this gown are so stunning! I love its quaint period feel, yet it also feels totally wearable and not like a costume. If fashion can trend in this elegant, feminine fashion I would be thrilled. Especially if it meant we got to see the world of sheer evening gowns and bodysuit evening gowns disappear from runways and red carpets.
The Met Gala is here again so it’s time for the most daring fashion of the year! It was hard to find much risk-taking in the center of the frame for men, although there was one dapper gentleman in green that I would have loved to talk about in the background of a lot of shots. Here’s my favorite looks from the 2017 Met Gala.
Joe Jonas in H&M
He looks great in this suit. The red and black work well together and the fit is great.
Michael B Jordan in Ralph Lauren Collection
I love this tartan choice of colors. How bold and how fun!
